Alex Zinin is the Chief Technology Officer for Cisco’s Service Provider business in Asia Pacific China and Japan.
Alex Zinin is the Chief Technology Officer for Cisco’s Service Provider business in Asia Pacific China and Japan. In this role, Alex partners closely with Cisco’s Service Provider customers to help them build out their capabilities in IP-NGN, Video, Mobility, Data Centers and Cloud Computing, as well as to develop Cisco’s technology strategy in the region.
Alex has extensive knowledge and experience in IP networking, including IP routing and MPLS architectures. He has been an active contributor in the IETF, and spent four years in the position of Routing Area Director, as well as being a member of the IESG (Internet Engineering Steering Group). He was also co-Director for IETF's sub-IP area. Alex is currently a member of the IETF Routing Area directorate and co-chairs the Routing WG.
Alex is the author of a number of IETF RFCs on IP routing and MPLS/GMPLS related topics. He is the author of the book "Cisco IP Routing: Packet Forwarding & Intra-domain Routing Protocols". He is also the inventor of a number of issued and pending patents related to IP routing and routing security.
Before joining Cisco, Alex served in multiple technology leadership roles at Alcatel-Lucent, including Vice President for IP solutions in Asia Pacific. He was also an Alcatel-Lucent fellow, a distinction awarded to a very select group of engineers. Prior to joining Alcatel-Lucent, Alex held technology positions various companies including Cisco in the US, a Silicon Valley startup and several system integrator companies in Russia. Alex received his Master of Science Degree in Computer Science with honors from Kazan State Technical University, Russia.
