In April 2010 it will be a full year since the first MVNO launches in the Middle East. But while this fledgling industry is still taking its first tentative steps towards becoming a established business model across the growth markets, the initial signs are positive.

FRiENDi has announced a multi-million dollar equity investment by Oman-based Dolphin International and venture capital firm ePlant Ventures, while Mazoon Mobile has signed an MVNO agreement with telecoms operator Nawras. Majan Telecom, which operators under the brand name Renna in Oman, is also feeling positive about the industry and is focusing heavily on business development opportunities in other countries.

However regulatory issues are continuing to hold up MVNO roll-out in some regions and network operators are still concerned about the potential negative impact MVNOs could have on their revenue streams - making contract negotiations fraught with difficulty.

The MVNOs Growth Market 2010 event will tackle the industry challenges head on, while celebrating the successes of the industry innovators by uncovering effective and proven business models and strategy. Key issues to be covered at the event include:

  • From concept to launch - the MVNO lifecycle
  • Strategies for monetising the MVNO proposition
  • Exploring the role of the MVNE in new markets
  • Discussing the MVNO roadmap and regional launches
  • Tackling strategic, technical and contractual challenges
  • Creating a successful value proposition
  • Engaging with the MVNO customer in niche markets
